Our rink is managed on a volunteer basis so we have limited resources to answer your questions. Please see our frequently asked questions below.
What will be your opening hours?
Our hours for the 2025 season will be as follows:
Wednesday 6.30pm to 9.30pm
Saturday 1pm to 5.pm, 6.30pm to 9.30pm
Sunday 1pm to 5pm
Public Holidays & School Holidays 1pm to 5pm
How do I get to the rink?
The Staveley Ice Rink is located at 294 Flynns Rd, Staveley.
From Christchurch - Follow the SH72 Inland Scenic Route. Turn right at the Staveley Store and follow the signs.
Ensure you are wearing good footwear for the short walk from the carpark.
Do we need to book?
We highly recommend bookings, a lot of our sessions book out so if you don’t want to miss out you may need to book.
What will it cost to skate?
We're trying to keep skating costs to a minimum. Please consider adding a donation to your booking.
Skating $ 15.00
Skate hire $10.00
Under 5 years: Free (not including skate hire)
Family Pass including Skates: $ 60.00 (2 Adults, 2 Children under 16 years)
Family Pass including Skates: $ 70.00 (2 Adults, 3 Children under 16 years)
Spectator - Free
Private Rink Hire: $500 up to 20 people, $ 20 per extra. Curling $300 extra
Friday Night Curling: $40 (booking essential)
Food van site (bookings essetial): $150
Note: All standard skate and skate hire prices apply to all ages except those under 5 years, who can skate for free. We only charge for hiring skates for the wee ones if needed.
Do you have Curling?
Yes, we have one public session on Fridays from the 11th of July . This session is by booking only, 6.30pm to 9.30pm. Tickets are $40 and available in the bookings tab above.
What type of payment methods will you accept?
We sell tickets online. Follow the ticketing link to purchase tickets. Eftpos and Cash available at the rink
Do you have Helmets
We have a limited selection of helmets available at the rink. We highly recommend you wear a helmet when on the ice and bring your own if you have one.
Will I need to hire skates, or will I be able to hire them there?
You are most welcome to bring your own skates, however we do have plenty of skates available for hire.
Can we bring food and drinks?
Strictly no Alcohol, Vaping or Smoking will be allowed at ice skating sessions. If you are seen to be doing any of the above you will be asked to leave.
You are welcome to bring food and we have two BBQs available for your use. We have snacks, hot & cold drinks, chips, chocolate, nuts & marshmallows for sale at the rink.
Can we fly a drone?
This will be dependent on the day and up to our volunteers on that day. You will need to ask then for approval.
Are tickets refundable or transferable?
Tickets are refundable up to 7 days before the session.
Tickets can be transferred by sending us an email at staveleyicerink@gmail.com.
Refund by clicking on "Update order" on your ticket email. Then there is a refund tab that you can click on to give yourself a refund up to 48 hours before a session.
How long will the season be?
Our season runs from the 30th May to the 31st of August. Weather dependent.
Do you have season passes available?
No, we will not be doing season passes at this stage.
Can we bring a dog(s)?
No, strictly no dogs allowed. We ask that you do not bring dogs to the rink or leave them in the carpark. If you do you will be asked to leave without a refund.
Can I do a group booking for the normal session times?
you are welcome to book through our booking system for a group, this can work well for kids partys etc.
Do you have skating chairs available?
We have chairs to help you on the Ice. These cannot be booked, are free and are on a first in basis. Strictly only skates and skate chairs allowed on the ice.
Is there private hire available?
The rink is available for private hire on Fridays from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, excluding public holidays and school holidays.

Rink hire is $500 for a group of 20, with an additional $20 per person thereafter.
If you would like to curl, there is an extra charge of $300. This is dependent on the availability of Windwhistle Curling Club volunteers.
Please note: Curling must be booked at least 4 days in advance.
Can we walk on the rink?
No, Strictly only Skates and Skate chairs are allowed on the rink. This stops dirt being taken on the rink and keeps your toes safe.
Will you open if it is raining?
We will update our Facebook page by 10 a.m. on the day if we are not going to open for the day session, and by 2 p.m. for the night session. We will refund any sessions that are cancelled.
Are you open public holidays?
Yes we will open from 1pm to 5pm on all public holidays in June,July & August.
I have left an item at the rink how do I get it back?
We have a lost property bin. You are welcome to pop back to the rink to collect items left. Sorry we don’t have the capacity at this stage to post or deliver items.

Staveley Ice Rink is more than just a place to skate. Surrounded by native beech forest and the Southern Alps, the ice rink is an experience you won’t forget.

How do we work
Our rink is community owned and run on a volunteer basis. All proceeds from the ice rink are used to grow and support the Staveley community.
